Bridging the Gap A Temporary Contact Program Even though someone in a treatment or correction facility has either been to in-house AA meetings, possibly some outside meetings as in the case of treatment, or if in a correction facility is aware of AA; they are usually apprehensive, fearful and experience anxiety in making the transition to outside meetings. Some additional AA personal contact can make this transition much easier on the "newcomer." This is referred to in most places as "Bridging the Gap." An AA member enjoying sobriety that works with individuals and helps them "Bridge the Gap" to AA is called a temporary contact. The temporary contact makes direct personal contact BEFORE, not after the individual leaves the facility. This can be done by telephone, visiting the facility, through mail, attending meetings together, or whatever contact is thought necessary.
